Council

Slovak Arts Council is a self-governing public institution guaranteeing support of art activities, culture and creative industry, which was established according to Act No. 284/2014 Coll. The Council replaced the substantial part of the former grant system of the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic and is independent of central bodies of state administration. Its main mission is the support of “live“ arts and culture with a special focus on diversity. The Council provides grants especially for creation, production, distribution and presentation of works of art; support of international cooperation; educational programmes in the fields of art, culture and creative industry; grants for individuals who contribute to development of arts and culture in creative way or by research.


The Council provides grants financial support for artistic activities, culture and creative industry, as follows:

a) creation, production, distribution and presentation of art objects and their reflections,
b) support of international cooperation in the field of artistic activities, culture and creative industry,
c) educational programmes in the fields of art, culture and creative industry,
d) grants for individuals who contribute to development of art and culture in creative or research way in the Slovak Republic,
e) projects that are supported within the programmes of European Union supporting the cultural sector and cultural and creative industry, if such projects contribute to achieve goals relevant for European Union and the Slovak Republic,
f) protection and development of cultural heritage and making it accessible for the public, besides areas of monumental funds.

The Council provides financial support for projects´ realization. A project for the purposes of the Act on the Slovak Arts Council is understood as follows:
a) creation, production and public presentation of pieces of art, particularly in the field of theatre, drama, music drama, pantomime, choreography, dance, music and literary work or work of fine arts,
b) creative production of artistic or folk work by singing, recital playing, dancing or other way,
c) publishing of periodical and non-periodical publications,
d) public presentation or publishing of art reflections,
e) production and public distribution of audio or audio-visual records,
f) realization of cultural events, festivals, shows and similar activities of national significance,
g) support provided for membership fees to international organizations executing its activity in the branches of art, culture or creative industry,
h) dissemination of Slovak art, culture and creative industry abroad,
i) mobility of artists and cultural workers, international cooperation in the branches of art, culture and creative industry,
j) co-financing of projects that received financial support from international sources, if their realization with regards to goals of European Union towards the Slovak Republic is considered as significant in the field of culture.
