Board of Slovak Arts Council

Board of Slovak Arts Council has nine mebers. Four of them are appointed and revoked by Minister of Culture of the Slovak Republic without any nomination. The other five members are appointed and revoked by Minister on the ground of nominations from professional associations from the field of art, culture and creative industry regarding the fact that

  • one member of the Board shall be expert for musical production,
  • one member of the Board shall be expert for theatre,
  • one member of the Board shall be expert for literature,
  • one member of the Board shall be expert for visual art,
  • one member of the Board shall be expert for cultural heritage.

Mandate of the Board members lasts 6 years in general.
But at the very beginning the nominated members made a bid with the duration of their mandate: three members have 2-years mandate, three members have 4-years mandate and the last three members have 6-years mandate.
It means that each two years the one third of Board members is changed.

Projects Selection Committees

    • The selecting procedure of the members of Projects Selection Committee (PSC) has several levels:
      1. On the base of open call for members of PSC organisations from the field of culture, art and creative industry can nominate members of PSC for particular programmes of FPU funding structure.
      2. Board of Slovak Arts Council selects members of PSC for particular programme from the nominees received from the open call.
      3. Selection procedure for the given call is based partly on a bid and partly on a vote.

  • Committee members have to be real professionals in the field because they guarantee the quality of the project selection procedure.
  • The more diversified committees guarantee the better balance amongst different interests.
  • Publishing information (points and short assessments) about the project selection procedure seems to be a good decision – because of applicants and public control.
  • It is important to find balance between transparency and avoiding the pressure put on the members of committees.
  • The autonomy of members should be preserved.

Executive Director of Slovak Arts Council

Executive Director of Slovak Arts Council is appointed by the Board from the natural persons who apply for the post in accordance with the open call. The call for Executive Director is announced by the Board.
